Next Phase Initiatives

Featuring essays, interviews, and photojournalism projects — NUANCE brings you thought-provoking pieces that address both the challenges and creative solutions to elevating peace efforts in the mainstream media.

In our conversations with journalists, we often hear how there simply isn’t enough room for nuance in reporting on peace and conflict. With the limitations of time and space, and the preferences of editors seeking stories that can reliably generate clicks and retweets, many reporters complain that they are unable to cover a story’s full complexity. The result is that far too many stories on peace and conflict are reduced to black and white terms. With that in mind, we are proud to present our seasonal journal, appropriately titled NUANCE. In this digital publication, we explore more thoughtful and inclusive approaches to conflict reporting, new strategies for framing peacebuilding, the impact of unregulated social media platforms on peace and conflict, and so much more.

Education is at the heart of MPV. The overarching goal of the Education Initiative will be to educate journalists, students, teachers, and the public about the role of media in peace and conflict, including the online media we disseminate, in either fueling conflict, or creating an atmosphere where peace becomes possible.

MPV’s Education Initiative is guided by volunteer Education Director Steven Youngblood.
