FOUNDER AND DIRECTOR

Jamil is an award-winning documentary filmmaker, communications expert and a lifelong peace activist; he was a conscientious objector in the Vietnam War. Through his media production and consulting firm, Spectrum Media, Jamil has made documentary films about sustainable development, education, nutrition, and child health. In partnership with multilateral organizations like USAID and the World Bank, Jamil has worked in Africa, Europe, Asia, and Latin America promoting social and environmental reform through documentary film and public awareness projects. Jamil has promoted sustainable agriculture in Malawi, conflict resolution skills in Jordan, democracy in Mali, and water conservation in Tunisia. In 2017, he founded Making Peace Visible (originally called War Stories Peace Stories) and was later awarded the 2019 Luxembourg Peace Prize for his work promoting global awareness of peace efforts through the MPV initiative.

CREATIVE DIRECTOR

Faith is a multimedia editor, producer, writer, and artist. She has over fifteen years of experience in audio and video production as well as over a decade of experience writing professionally as an award-winning art critic, journalist and essayist for academic and arts audiences. Faith has served as editor and producer for podcasts such as The Wisdom Podcast, featuring global peace leaders such as His Holiness the Dalai Lama, as well as for Breakthroughs, a podcast out of Northwestern University’s Feinberg School of Medicine. Faith is a graduate of Harvard Divinity School where she studied religion and ethics. She also holds an MFA from Georgia State University where she taught interdisciplinary studio art practices and writing.

PRODUCER, DIGITAL MEDIA

Andrea is a freelance audio producer and writer with over a decade of experience in public radio and podcasting. She was a founding producer/reporter for Side Effects Public Media, a public health reporting collaborative based at WFYI Indianapolis, Indiana, and the founding producer for NEXT, a regional public radio show based at WNPR in Hartford, Connecticut. She currently writes the weekly newsletter for NPR’s health desk. Andrea produces the biweekly WSPS podcast Making Peace Visible and writes for our Twitter account and newsletter. She holds a bachelor’s degree in political studies from Bard College and a certificate in radio documentary from the Salt Institute of Documentary Studies.

DIRECTOR OF GRANTS AND PARTNERSHIPS

Annie Rappeport is a peace and atrocity prevention scholar dedicated to advancing peace through memory, education and dialogue. She is currently a Researcher for the Karsh Institute for Democracy focusing on designing student-facing democratic engagement towards depolarization and building social cohesion. Annie is a Researcher for the Alliance for Peacebuilding supporting the Global Fragility Act implementation in high priority countries. As a leader in the International Listening Association, Annie designed the University Student Listening Practicum, guiding students from diverse backgrounds in projects that use listening as a transformative tool for social change in 15+ countries. In her prior 6 years of work with Semester at Sea as an Associate Director, Annie co-led international outreach, partnerships, and international donor relations in 30+ countries while also helping design itineraries and field programs.

VOLUNTEER DIRECTOR OF EDUCATION

Steven is founding director of the Center for Global Peace Journalism at Park University in Parkville, Missouri, where he is a communications and peace studies professor. He has organized and taught peace journalism seminars and workshops in 33 countries/territories, is a two-time Fulbright Scholar (Moldova 2001, Azerbaijan 2007) and has served as a U.S. State Department Senior Subject Specialist in Ethiopia (2018). Youngblood is the author of Peace Journalism Principles and Practices and Professor Komagum. He edits The Peace Journalist magazine and writes and produces the Peace Journalism Insights blog. He has been recognized for his contributions to world peace by the U.S. State Department, Rotary International and the World Forum for Peace, which named him a Luxembourg Peace Prize laureate for 2020-21.

EVENT DESIGNER

Peter has served major corporations, nonprofit organizations, universities, and international NGOs throughout his career. His experience ranges from multimedia staging, exhibit, and architectural designs to public art installations, and from documentary films to graphic design for print and web. Projects include Creative Director and Producer of the Harvard Chan School’s only online pandemic-era Graduation and Alumni events; Creative Director for several signature events for the Commonwealth of Virginia’s 2019 Commemoration marking 400 years of representative democracy in Virginia and America; Creative Director and Producer of the OneWorld@MIT Multicultural Festival, and of Moving Day! celebrating the centennial of MIT’s move from Boston to Cambridge. Peter serves on the boards of two nonprofits engaged in conservation and education, The Red List Project and The Farm School Foundation.
